RVacationer Adventure Videos :

Below are links to our Youtube channel videos that cover our more recent adventures across the United States and Canada in our 40 foot Newmar Dutch Star diesel pusher flat towing a Jeep Cherokee. Our adventures have taken us to all 50 states. We hope you enjoy our RVacationer adventure, experience, repair and maintenance videos. Please watch our video adventures and check out our blog at RVacationer blog-posts .

We share our thoughts on 7 factors to use when trying to find the perfect campground, overnight stay or site. The factors are the same although the priority of each factor will change depending on your particular needs for that stay. You may want a luxury resort for a week, and then several Corps of Engineers sites to reduce costs until your next destination. We have also used Cabela’s, Walmarts, Cracker Barrels, and truck stops to spend a one-nighter for free between destination stops.
We drove the toad down from St. Augustine to Daytona to see what it has to offer. We really enjoyed the beach and the International Speedway. ( the beach was our favorite ).
We spend several days touring, eating, and site seeing in St. Augustine. We stayed at Compass RV Resort and had a nice site next to a pond with a fountain. Very relaxing and enjoyable visit to one of America’s oldest towns.
We also visited the Fountain of Youth. We didn’t get any younger, but we are still breathing, so I will take that.
Our last day of marathon touring the Outer Banks. We visit the “Lost Colony”, Jeanette’s Pier, and more on our last day before leaving for St. Augustine Florida.
We visit all the Outer Banks lighthouses and Duck Donuts. There is one odd looking lighthouse that is just a normal sized house. If you have never had a Duck Donut, then the trip to Outer Banks needs to be on your list of places to visit soon.
If you are even remotely curious about Noah’s Ark, and the drama and adventure that must have gone with their experience, then you MUST SEE this museum and recreation of the ARK. P.S. wear good walking shoes, and plan on taking several breaks throughout the visit.
Northern KY, we setup base camp at Whispering Hills RV Park in Georgetown KY. Then used our Jeep to visit the Creation Museum, and The Ark Encounter, and drove around the area to Indiana, Ohio, and Paris (KY).
MUST SEE / and MUST EAT !! Enjoy seeing exotic animals and wildlife at the walk-thru fenced off animal preserve. We had to wait about 45 minutes to get a table so we enjoyed the animal viewing trail while we waited. The Food, Service, and ambiance were among the best we have enjoyed, and that’s saying a lot !!!
Review of Cullman Campground just off I-65 in Cullman Alabama. We had fun taking the grandkids to 4-D farms pumpkin patch festival for rides, and adventures for them to enjoy.
You Simply MUST try these wonderful Pineapple upside down pancakes. The only thing that would have been better is to be in Hawaii and have fresh coconut syrup.
Gadsden Alabama just off I-59 in North Alabama. Loved this park, however, COVID still had several places closed that we hoped to see. noccalula falls being one of them. Still had fun site seeing, and eating out, and relaxing by the lake.
After the state of Alabama allowed parks to open and people to get out and about within 6 feet distance and using proper hand washing techniques we loaded up and went to our favorite local campground again. We love this campground, but apparently so do a lot of people that have been locked up with kids for 8 weeks due to COVID virus scare. We used our drone, and gopro to take some unique scenery footage around the park. We hope you enjoy the sites and sounds of Lake Guntersville State Park. Later in the year we will make our bigger summer trip as we normally do, but we aren’t sure when the museums and national parks are going to open up for normal activity. Until then, we are just going to camp within a couple of hours of the house.
Just after the COVID Quarantine was lifted we wanted to check this place out for you. We had heard great things about this County Park in North Alabama Just off I-65 Exit 305. It has many great attributes, but no internet, wifi, Verizon cellular coverage so you will be OFF-GRID at this beautiful County Park surrounded by Smith Lake in Cullman Alabama.
All loaded up and just about to leave. Then we get a call saying our reservations were cancelled due to the Corona Virus Pandemic !!! We and two other couples planned to meet up at the Ark Encounter and Creation Museum in Kentucky. We called an all hands meeting at our house to make a “PLAN B”. The consensus was to go south to warmer, dryer weather, so Bellingrath Gardens HERE WE COME. We enjoyed our week at Shady Acres RV Park in Mobile Alabama. From there we were perfectly located between Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island. We visited the beach, saw dolphins, snakes, alligators, Bellingrath Gardens, Fort Gaines (future video), Sea lab Estuarium, and ate way too much. We had a great time and hated to see the week come to an end.
Norma and I had a great time visiting Mobile Alabama. We stayed at Shady Acres RV Park in Mobile which was pretty much centrally located between Gulf Shores and Dauphin Island. The Dauphin Island Sea Lab is directly across the street from Fort Gaines. Join us as we take a tour of the historic Fort Gaines and visited the Dauphin Island Sea Lab. We went with friends which made it even more enjoyable to discuss and imagine the wars and battles this fort has seen. If only walls could talk.

We had a great time in Helen Georgia mountains. Took in some mountain scenery, amazing waterfalls, and historic monuments. We enjoyed the European style architecture of Helen GA. We ate some great food too 😉

While enjoying Thanksgiving with the kids and grand-kids in Savannah GA we took a hop-on/off trolley tour and even had a shuttle bus pick us up at the campground and bring us back. Take a ride with us and you may want to go to Savannah yourself.

Having a wonderful time with family this Thanksgiving in Savannah GA.

RV Tire Safety | TST TPMS 507 with repeater

Norma and I decided the risk isn’t worth the savings of NOT having a tire pressure monitoring system. I would much rather have a heads up before something happens, rather than the disaster of a blow-out in a remote area of some national park or native American reservation getting to a national park.

Huntsville Alabama’s best RV parks

October 2019 our opinion is based on convenience to local attractions, convenience to Interstate access, and convenience to city amenities like Restaurants, shopping, museums, VBCC, etc.

Shakedown before Savannah

We made another shakedown run to Lake Guntersville State Park in Alabama before our next week long trip to Savannah GA. We saw a lot of beautiful sunsets, wildlife, lake views, and did a little pickin’ and grinin’ in the evening before quiet time of course. The shakedown test was mostly for the new RV Armor roof and we got enough rain to thoroughly test the leak-proof-ness of the new roof.

RV Park Review Guntersville AL

This park is very nice, quiet, and in a good location. It’s not on the lake but within a couple of miles of the lake and downtown Guntersville AL. It is far enough away to be quiet and relaxing but close enough to a good RV repair shop, grocery stores, fast food, or nice sit down restaurants. It is also reasonably priced for short term or long term stays.

RV ARMOR ROOF

Our 2002 Dutch Star was in need of much love concerning the condition of its roof. We are completely happy with our new roof system installed by RV Armor. They actually came to my location rather than me having to drive to them and stay in a hotel while they work. Check out the video.

Cook and Drive

Norma’s delicious crock pot Roast, potatoes, and carrots meal is a wonderful treat after a long day of driving the RV. Then the crock pot peach cobbler makes the day. Both can be cooked while driving the motorhome if you have a generator that will support it. It’s wonderful to have a good nutritious meal ready to eat when you’re all setup for the night and you don’t have to worry about cooking or very little cleanup.

Please consider subscribing and give us a thumbs up if you like this video. Please let us know in the video comments what you do for your meal after a long day of driving and setting up your rig.

Youtube Playlist

We created a RVacationer channel playlist with all our videos from our 2019 summer Alabama to Canada trip. Please like and subscribe of you feel so inclined. It would really mean a lot to us to hear and learn from you as well. Thanks

Seafood Thanksgiving tradition

We started a new tradition for Thanksgiving week. We found a campground that we love that is far enough away to be quiet, but close enough to be 15 minutes from the Beach and some great restaurants.

Been There, Done That !

Over our decades of RVing across the U.S.A. We have had a few “trials” and difficult situations. Please give the video a watch to hear about our shutting down the MA turnpike, GPS getting us to a small community trailer park instead of the KOA, flooding the camper (twice), using Social Media for help, Notify your Bank, etc. Hopefully you can learn from our mistakes.

Enjoy 39 years of traveling with us as we go back through our photo albums and put together years of visiting places like Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Monument Valley, Yosemite, Mt St Helens, Portland Maine, Harrisburg & Lancaster PA, and many other adventures in our variety of trailers and now our motor home.

Continued from Lake Guntersville drive through last week. We are actually camping here this weekend in April 2019. We had to deal with stormy weather including tornado watches in the area overnight. Never the best part of camping, but we do walk you through the campground in more detail.

Take a test drive with us through our favorite local ( to us ) North Alabama State Park. We test our Garmin RV770LMT-S GPS system and figure out how it works as well as see some beautiful views of Lake Guntersville, and some wildlife as well.

Walk Through our 2002 Newmar Dutch Star and see how we live when we are on the road during our country wide adventures. Our rig is a 40 foot diesel pusher and we flat tow a 2008 Honda Civic ( over 18,000 miles so far ).

We enjoyed the day in Chattanooga Tennessee with RVing friends, and even met a couple from Peggy’s Cove Nova Scotia where we will be this summer and made friends instantly.

Who we are and where we come from and where we’ve been. We aren’t full timers, but are long trip takers. Norma is off every summer, and I can work from anywhere there is stable wi-fi within reach.

Getting the Dutch Star out of storage and heading to the service center for an oil, filter, lube, tire-check, and generator service for our next big road trip to Canada.

How we plan our long cross country multi-stop trips. We use an online tool called rvtripwizard.com. Watch the video to see a little of how it works.

We went to the 2019 Birmingham Alabama RV Super Show. There were lots of trailers, 5th wheels and motor homes to see new features and options available for those of you who may be looking to get into the RV lifestyle.

We visited the 2019 Huntsville Alabama RV Super Show. The event was packed and we had to wait an hour or so to just find a parking spot anywhere close to the Civic Center.

We removed the carpeting from our Dutch Star and replaced it with engineered vinyl plank. It looks much lighter and bigger than it did before.

We’ve been extremely fortunate to visit all 50 states. In our early days when our children were small, we drove a pick up pulling a pop-up to Los Angeles, Pacific Ocean state park, and we haven’t stopped RVing since.
